Brock Emanuel - Medical Student, ATSU - Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine

Brock Emanuel is a second-year meidcal student at A.T. Still University - Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a part of the Executive Board for the school's Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Club (IDD Club), which provides their sutdent's and future physicians additional education, training,m and exposure to the IDD population. As part of his role with the IDD Club, Brock plans Health Fairs for he Adair County IDD population in partnership with Missouri Special Olympics and other ATSU student organizations.


Presentation Description - Self-advocacy in the Medical Setting:

Join ATSU Medical Students as they explain some common things that patients with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities may encounter at a doctor's visit. They will demonstrate the difference between good and bad encounters, as well as, demonstrating some of the more common medical equipment that might be used during an appointment. Additionally, they will present various ways patients with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities can advocate for themselves and be aware of how they should be treated and respected by their doctor.
