Chris is a graduate of Buena Vista University. She has worked in different aspects in the disability community since coming to Kirksville in the 1980’s. She worked as a caretaker for a friend’s son who had Down Syndrome. Another very good friend had a major brainstem stroke which left him a quadriplegic and unable to speak and Chris cared for him and made him assistive equipment such as a device which enabled him to feed himself. She was also a Direct Support Professional for different providers with several different clients over the years. Chris also has a niece who has Down Syndrome.

For over 9 years, Chris worked as a Lead Service Coordinator for Missouri First Steps. Immediately prior to coming to SB40 in August, 2021, she worked for Chariton Valley Association starting off as a Professional Manager before being promoted to Assistant Director of Programs.

Chris enjoys working in the field and feels it is very rewarding to know she is helping people with disabilities by being an advocate, participating in their care, or getting them the services they need to help them be able to live the best life they are able to live.

She has been married for over 30 years to Mike. They have two children; one daughter who is married and provided Chris and Mike with their first grandson. Their son is a senior in high school. Family is very important to Chris.

In Chris’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and backpacking, hiking and kayaking with friends.
